Take the Day Off…Really!

Reuters published an article earlier this year about how many people stay “connected” while on vacation. The survey was done in June by Monster.ca (Canada) and the results showed that 53% of 1792 respondents admitted doing some work while on vacation; 27% check email daily and another 17% admitted that they never really stopped working. That is not a vacation!

Take the Time to Recharge

If you never take a break, how do you refresh and re-energize? If you never take a break, aren’t you also missing an opportunity to be fully present for your family or friends? If you never take a break, you could be compromising the greatness of your own potential, simply because you are stressed and worn out.

You can’t drive a car with a dead battery. The toys under the tree won’t go without a charged battery. You won’t be able to keep running if your battery runs out. What can you do? Here are seven quick tips to help you recharge.

December 25 is Christmas. Whether or not is is your religious holiday, take the day off. New Year’s Day is also a holiday for many, take that day off, too! Really take the day off. No checking the Blackberry during the gift exchange. When you go to your family dinner, leave the iPhone in the glove compartment. Don’t even think about turning on that laptop. I know this may be a real stretch, but don’t even think about work.

I promise you, it will still be there on the 26th and on January 2nd. And you will be better able to tackle it if you just give yourself a break. Enjoy the holidays.
